When should you tweet? What should you tweet about?
A friend of mine recently asked me “When should I tweet” such that it gets read by a maximum number of followers on Twitter? His frustration was due to the fact that his tweets were getting very few responses and those that were signing on weren’t exactly of the highest quality. When should you tweet? This is one question a lot of people are looking answers for.
I am going to share with you what I said to him. There are two approaches to this problem.
- Try to figure out the time period your followers are least active on Twitter. This approach works in majority of the cases. Tweeting during the time your followers are least active is like wasting your energy and time as all your efforts goes down the drain.
- Timely is another approach to finding the perfect time for tweeting. The app tracks your last 200 tweets and shortlists the ones that have been retweeted. This will help you know the particular time bucket you should tweet more.
What should you tweet about?
A lot of people are curious about what they should be writing about on Twitter. At the first place, you should get cool links to stuff your followers will like. It is true that a picture is worth a thousand words and you can put it into practice by using multi-media tools like TwitPic, 12 Seconds or Utterli. These tools will bring variety to your tweets.
Best still, retweet others when they post tweets you like and want to share. The whole story revolves around helping others, because more you help others, the more they help you. Last not the least, your tweets will perform better only if you tweet according to your follower’s time zone and the location they are based in.
So, aim for a good mix of stand-alone tweets and direct messages and your dream will come true!
